EXPOSURES AND EXHIBITIONS
Out From the Mist, October 2023
A collaborative and passion project between Myr's closest friends namely: Kim Tomaro (Multimedia arts practitioner) and Ed Priete ( Film Maker).
The photography titled "Avarice" was a finalist at the 'Out From the Mist', an international competition depicting Mental Health. This work was an entry for the single photography category and was exhibited at the Judith Wright Arts Centre in Brisbane, Australia. Myr served as the model, production designer, and costume designer for the team.
A visualization of self depreciation, of the harmful actions I take to cope with depression. I stare into the void and find myself wanting, often doing things for relief that end up spiraling into a bigger mess. I'm gasping for air, for any sort of freedom or solution, and realizing that taking too much, my avarice, has left me broke and unrecognizable. I know now that managing these harmful impulses is the first step towards healing.

Beyond the Closet, 2022
Coming Out
is an intimate process of individuals identifying within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum wherein they are able to realize, accept, understand, and comfortable sharing and exploring their SOGIE or Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression to their loved ones and other people. But we often only see the end of this process which is being “out of the closet” and not the embedded narratives before, during, and or after Coming out that significantly affect this
process – what is beyond the closet.
Beyond the Closet
features six personal experiences of Coming out of LGBTQIA+ individuals from Koronadal City, South Cotabato, surrounding the concept of self, environment, and culture. These personal experiences were collaboratively translated by the participants and the artist/researcher to the artistic practice of the artist, 2D Digital Painting, and an art style called Stylized Art. This exhibition aims to explore the capabilities of 2D Digital Paintings as a visual communication tool in artistically representing the unknown narratives of “Coming out.” But more importantly, an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ individuals to own their coming out process, forge their newfound identities, and testimony that gender diversity is existing through these experiences of people.
This artistic practice thesis is inspired by the artist/researcher’s personal experience of Coming Out, her passion for the visual arts, and a culmination of her four years of education as a Communication and Media Arts student at the University of the Philippines Mindanao.
A short explanation on some terms mentioned in here, particularly the ascribe and avowed identity:
It should be noted that the sexual identities presented here are all self-identified by the participants themselves in connection to their experiences. These identities can be acquired and acknowledged in different ways, Sanchez (2021) discussed about these forms of identification as Ascribed identities, wherein it refers to the social, cultural, and personal identities given to us by others stereotypes can be considered as part of this while, Avowed identities is the type of identity that we claim by ourselves. These identities are not constant, and both can change overtime.
